On a daily basis, here at Minnesota Vein Center, we see amazed patients as they for the first time understand the extensiveness of their vein disease. This is partly due to the fact that vein symptoms often develop and progress so insidiously, that patients are not aware that there even may be something wrong.
Vein disease tends to be a slow, progressive process with a wide spectrum of symptoms. Most reported symptoms include leg pain, heaviness, leg fatigue and swelling at the end of the day. Patients also complain of extensive varicose veins on the leg, clusters of spider veins on the insides of the ankles, and that brownish skin discoloration near the ankles. Not everyone suffers from all symptoms. Many busy people just learn to “live with” their aches and pains. Also, while routine exercise is great for your health, many patients who exercise daily actually alleviate their symptoms, not realizing they are suffering from venous disease.
The most effective way to obtain an accurate diagnosis for the presence and extent of your vein disease is to visit a specialty vein center for an evaluation by a vein specialist who is accredited by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and a credentialed RPVI who can perform a venous duplex ultrasound, and evaluate blood flow. These results determine the extent of disease. At Minnesota Vein Center, we use a combination of procedures and equipment to provide the most comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of vein disease.
