Qualifications – Does the physician have ABMS Board Certification such as in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Interventional Radiology, or other medical areas–AND then ask the question: does the doctor have certification in this speciality: Phlebology (now called Venous and Lymphatic Medicine.) Is the physician in good standing with key professional societies?
RPVI Certified – A Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation was developed for physicians who practice in vein diseases to provide the skills and extensive knowledge to perform and evaluate vascular ultrasound evaluations to diagnose vein disease. This allows the physician to thoroughly interpret the test results to determine an optimal treatment plan.
ICAVL Certification – Does the clinic have a Registered Vascular Technicians and does the clinic maintain accreditation through the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) for Vascular Testing| ICAVL. Are the ultrasound exams completed IN the clinic – this is the preferred site for venous exams.
Privileges – Does the physician have hospital privileges? Physician’s must meet and maintain credentialing to meet the highest of standards to practice within a hospital facility.
Outpatient Procedures – Does the physician provide all treatment in the preferred setting of outpatient/clinic setting with local anesthesia and minimal down-time? No hospitalization – no vein stripping.
Equipment – Does the clinic offer state-of-the-art treatment modalities such as radiofrequency (Venefit) or Laser (CoolTouch) which are considered as — of the most effective and comfortable endovenous ablation techniques available to close an affected incompetent vein. Is the physician experienced in micro-phlebectomy and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy.
Experience – How often does the physician perform the procedures you will need. How many years has the physician been in the Phlebology specialty? Is the practice dedicated to VEINS or does the physician have a varied practice. In a dedicated vein practice/clinic, the physician and staff will have extensive experience and a streamlined procedure and patient flow.
