Treatments
At Minnesota Vein Center, a treatment plan will be adopted to fit each individual following a thorough diagnostic evaluation. Our treatment options may include compression stockings, vein injections (sclerotherapy) or outpatient procedures (ambulatory phlebectomy and endovenous ablation.)
Cool Touch Procedure
The Minnesota Vein Center is now using new technology for the treatment of varicose veins. CoolTouch CTEV is an endovenous laser that uses light waves to eliminate varicose veins.

With the CoolTouch CTEV, a small fiber is inserted into the varicose vein. The laser is activated and as the fiber is pulled back through the vein, it gently heats and safely closes the vein. Once the vein is closed, the blood that was circulating through the vein is re-routed to other healthy veins.
The CoolTouch CTEV procedure in minimally invasive and is performed in the clinic. There are no incisions, scars or bruising and since the access site is so small no sutures are necessary. You will be able to resume light routine activity the next day and athletic or strenuous activities within several days to a couple of weeks depending upon your specific case.

Closure® Procedure
This procedure is performed in the clinic and requires 45-60 minutes to completion. A form of local anesthesia (Tumescent) allows for a safe and painless procedure. A small catheter delivers radiofrequency that heats the vein wall causing the vein to collapse as the catheter is withdrawn.
A bandage and compression stockings are applied and after a short stay, patients then return home. Most patients may return to work the next day. For more information on Closure® Procedure see below.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
This is a method of removing larger surface varicose veins. It is performed in the office under a local anesthesia. Through tiny punctures the veins are manipulated out of the skin. There are no obvious scars and this procedure takes about one hour. A bandage is worn for several days and compression stockings for about one week following this procedure.
Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy
A solution is injected into the deeper veins with the guidance of ultrasound to visualize deeper inadequate vessels. This procedure takes 15-20 minutes. Normal activity can usually resume the procedure day.
Sclerotherapy
A very fine needle is used to inject a solution into the small veins. An inflammatory response occurs and the vein gradually collapses. Eventually, the vein is reabsorbed by the body. More than one treatment may be needed for the blue and red spider veins to disappear.
Compression Stockings
Compression stockings are often used before moving to other treatments. They steadily squeeze your legs, helping veins and leg muscles move blood upward to the heart.
We use the highest medical quality of compression stockings. Our stockings are available in various styles and colors.
